You'll never go back to bath mats.

When it comes to decorating your bathroom, the bath mat is often an afterthought. After all, you’re not actively using it every day, it just happens to be there to catch all the water dripping down your legs. That said, bath mats are important, not only do they keep your floors dry, but they prevent you from slipping on a typically unforgiving surface. Also, much like an area rug in a living room, bath mats serve as a beautiful finishing touch in your bathroom. The only downside? Traditionally plush bath mats are basically five-star hotels for up to thousands of bacteria and fungi. Yes, you can wash it regularly (read: weekly), but who has time for that?

Instead, lay Dorai’s bath stone—yes, stone—where you’d normally put your bath mat. Available in two earthy shades and patterns, the stone is crafted using recycled paper and compressed diatomaceous earth, so it really does feel like, well, stone. The best part, however, is the fact that it dries instantly by removing water rather than absorbing it. That’s key in preventing bacteria growth and mold. The stone also comes with a rubberized bottom pad, so you won’t slip upon stepping on it. Did we mention it earned a well-deserved Live Better Award?

One reviewer wrote: “Now this thing is cool as heck. It is super absorbent and dries instantly. I actually keep throwing water on it to see how [quickly] it will dry, it is hypnotic to watch.”

So if you don’t feel like washing your bath mat every week, which microbiologist Jason Tetro suggests, just bite the bullet and order yourself a bath stone. They’re much easier to clean. For light stains and scuffs, just buff them out with the included sanding tool, and for more extreme dirt, dab with a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide or bleach. Yes, that’s it. This thing really is as good as it seems.
