The debate over whether South Holland should have wheelie bins has been reignited after it was revealed that the district council is reviewing the area’s collections.
Coun Jack Tyrrell, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, has confirmed that South Holland District Council is looking at the area’s bin collections to ensure the ‘efficiency and resilience’ of the service.
Residents will soon be receiving a letter from South Holland District Council to confirm their green and black bag collections after the assessment has been completed.
Coun Jack Tyrrell, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “Waste and recycling rounds are currently being reviewed and we will be writing to all residents in the district shortly, following completion of the review, to confirm their green and black sack collections days.
“The letter will confirm the date of implementation. We are looking at round changes to improve both efficiency and resilience of the waste and recycling collection service.”
But once we broke the news online earlier this week, some residents have called for the area to embrace wheelie bins while others are dead against it.
Beverley Marshall contacted the Spalding Guardian to state: “Maybe Spalding could introduce actual bins like most other areas? This would hopefully make collections easier and more efficient?”
Gina Tilling commented on website: “I live in Donington we have bag collections I don't want wheelie bins they are an eyesore. As for the refuse collectors we couldn't get any better than the ones we have they are polite, friendly, they are fast, always on time couldn't ask for more, our roads are spotless please leave Donington as it is. No wheelie bins thank you.”
While Jim Stratford had a different view.
He commented on our website: “I've lived all around the country and recently moved to Spalding. It's the first town I've lived in that doesn't have wheelie bins and was very surprised.
“Wheelie bins are actually tidier, easier to move around and prevent animals being able to tear at the bags inside. You usually pay the council about £80 for 2 bins and if you choose you can buy a third for garden waste. SHDC are also the only one that I've seen that does not provide a garden waste service as you are put on a seemingly bottomless waiting list.
“As people have said they haven't mentioned wheelie bins and I'm guessing it's more like going to fortnightly collections to 'streamline' the operation (in other words cut costs').”
